Anger of Moroccans against Ryanair

During the discussion of the budget of the Ministry of Transport at the House of Advisors this Monday, the union representative wanted to break the myth of low prices. According to him, this price competitiveness conceals serious violations of workers’ rights. He stated that the Irish company employs Moroccans with "derisory wages", under temporary contracts and without any social coverage. He opposed this model to that of Royal Air Maroc (RAM), which assumes the full social cost and guarantees the minimum wage to its teams.

For Noureddine Slik, this situation is a test for the credibility of the welfare state. He believes that Ryanair takes advantage of the benefits granted by the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) to impose its conditions and make regional transport policies dependent on its decisions, a form of "blackmail" observed elsewhere in Africa and Europe.

The advisor also pointed to the quality of service, mentioning the poor treatment of passengers, particularly the elderly, and hidden fees on baggage. Faced with future challenges such as the 2030 World Cup, he called on the government to implement a clear policy to provide financial and logistical support to RAM, or even to create regional companies, rather than tolerating low-cost travel that is done at the expense of respect for laws and the dignity of workers.
