An Algerian supporter urinates in a stadium in Morocco, he is in prison
The Algerian supporter who had aroused strong indignation on social networks, has been placed in detention at the El Arjat prison, near Rabat. Prosecuted while under arrest, he is now awaiting his appearance before the courts for his actions during the Algeria-DR Congo match, counting for the round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Initially apprehended in Casablanca last Thursday, the young man was transferred to the capital last Friday. This transfer was justified by jurisdictional competence issues, as the incriminating acts had taken place at the Prince Moulay El Hassan stadium in Rabat.
The individual had distinguished himself by the dissemination of a video showing him urinating in the stands of the stadium while boasting of his gesture, even though the sports venue has accessible toilets. The widely shared video had provoked a wave of outrage from the public.
According to judicial sources, the defendant is being prosecuted for:
• Public indecency.
• Statements contrary to good morals and public morality.
• Indecent behavior during a sporting event.
This judicial procedure, initiated in accordance with the legislation in force, aims to sanction an act deemed detrimental to public order and the image of the continental competition organized by the Kingdom.
