Algeria Threatens to Withdraw as Host of 2022 African Nations Championship Amid Tensions with CAF

Algeria, the host country of the 2022 African Nations Championship, wants to give up its organization, as a protest against Morocco.
According to the Algerian media Sports News DZ, Algeria does not tolerate the multiple provocations of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), whose president, Ahmad Ahmad, has strongly criticized the country for requesting the cancellation of the 2020 futsal CAN, organized in Laâyoune.
The Algerian government does not rule out the possibility of renouncing the organization of the African Nations Championship (CHAN), scheduled for Algiers, Oran, Tizi Ouzou and Annaba, in 2022. The Algerians are ready to expose themselves to sanctions from the CAF, just to protest against Morocco.
According to the CAF texts, if Algeria takes action and officially renounces CHAN 2022, its football federation risks a fine of $150,000 and a suspension of two editions of the tournament.
