Algeciras Heliport Explores International Routes to Ceuta and Tangier

The scale of activities at the Algeciras heliport leads its authorities to consider launching connections to the autonomous city of Ceuta and Tangier airport in Morocco.

To achieve this objective, the company that operates the regular passenger and cargo helicopter services between Ceuta, Algeciras, Málaga and Melilla is banking on obtaining the category of international flights, reports Europa sur. The Spanish media sees in the establishment of a mandatory stopover in Algeciras, the possibility of a direct link with the autonomous city, thus resolving political disputes, namely the Moroccan claims on Ceuta.

On the Hélity side, the company that operates the regular passenger and cargo transport links from the Algeciras heliport to the current destinations mentioned, hope is allowed. "We continue to work on the Algeciras heliport, so that it becomes international and the objective is on the right track: the glass cabins for the border police have already been received," say the officials.

Moreover, the Hélity company has already acquired a new AW-319 helicopter, like the two with which it already operates, in order to strengthen the fleet, maintain and improve the frequency and regularity of flights. In addition, a second hangar is planned to be built soon in the port of Ceuta.

It should be noted that last July, the Algeciras heliport recorded 3,524 passengers and 308 movements, between commercial routes and other types of operations. A record which, according to Hélity officials, represents a 13.7% increase in the number of passengers and a 3.4% increase in the volume of operations compared to the same dates last year.
