Tétouan Airport Closed... Due to Rain

The Moroccan Ministry of Transport announced on Thursday the temporary closure of Tétouan–Sania R’mel Airport. This decision follows significant rainfall that has degraded the safety conditions necessary for the operation of the site and air navigation.

The airport authorities have ordered the immediate interruption of all departures and arrivals at Tétouan on Thursday, January 29. This emergency measure, coordinated with the specialized technical services, was decided after an assessment of the condition of the runways, heavily impacted by the record rainfall recorded in the region in recent hours.

The Ministry of Transport and Logistics specified that this preventive closure aims to maintain the highest levels of safety, in accordance with national and international requirements. Concerning technical data has required rapid intervention to allow the maintenance teams to carry out verification and rehabilitation work on the airport infrastructure.

The reopening of the platform will only be authorized once full compliance with the safety protocols has been validated by the control authorities. The government has committed to communicating regularly on the progress of the technical interventions, stressing that the safety of passengers and crews remains the absolute priority in the face of these climatic hazards.

In the meantime, travelers are invited to contact their respective airlines for details on the status of their flights and any diversions.
