A plane from Madrid caught in the storm in Tangier
Due to extreme weather conditions, a Boeing 737-400 cargo plane from Madrid was forced to perform complex maneuvers during its attempted landing at Tangier airport on Wednesday. Strong winds and reduced visibility are currently disrupting air traffic in northern Morocco.
The cargo flight, which departed from the Spanish capital, encountered atmospheric disturbances upon arrival at the Ibn Battouta platform in the middle of the day. Navigation data indicates that the crew had to keep the aircraft in flight over the region, performing multiple approach maneuvers while waiting for the weather to improve. This situation is the direct result of heavy precipitation and dense cloud cover that have significantly degraded safety conditions on the runway.
The Boeing remained on standby with the option to divert to another airport if the unfavorable conditions were to persist. These incidents occur as Atlantic storms are temporarily impacting air traffic in this geographical area.
