Ziyech Posts Cryptic Message After Morocco’s World Cup Qualifier Win

Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech, a player for the Qatari club Al-Duhail, posted a message on his Instagram account that raised questions, via a "story". This post came after the Moroccan national team’s victory over Niger (2-1) on Friday, during the qualifications for the 2026 World Cup.
Ziyech’s message to his subscribers states: "They will need you again, just make sure you don’t forget how they played you." The meaning of this sentence remains unclear, leaving room for various interpretations as to its recipient and context.
Hakim Ziyech has not been selected for the national team for several months. His absence is officially justified by a lack of playing time and a deemed insufficient physical condition.
Some sources mention extra-sporting tensions, linked to the player’s positions, as factors that may have influenced his non-selection. The national coach, Walid Regragui, categorically refutes this hypothesis, stating that his choices are based solely on sporting criteria.
Morocco’s victory over Niger brings the team’s total points to 12 in its qualifying campaign for the 2026 World Cup. The Atlas Lions will face Tanzania next Tuesday at the same stadium in Oujda.
