Tuesday 9 April 2019, by
After bringing back a valuable draw from Conakry, the Wydad Casablanca can hope for a nice jackpot if it manages to win the victory against Horoya Conakry in the return match counting for the quarter-finals of the African Champions League. One billion cents, or 10 million dirhams, at stake.
In Guinea, while he was traveling to face Horoya Conakry for the first leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals last Saturday, the WAC managed to keep its goal intact, but did not score either. On the other hand, this draw gives them an advantage in the upcoming match, which they will play this time at home. They just have to win to go straight to the semi-finals. And that’s not all.
According to Al Akhbar, a place in the semi-finals would entitle the WAC to 8 million dirhams. A sum to which we can already add some 1.6 million in ticket sales. As well as advertising revenue and other sponsor donations. 1 billion cents therefore at stake in case of victory in this upcoming match which will take place on Saturday, April 13.
Tunisian Faouzi Benzarti, coach of the WAC, said: "Horoya Conakry is an opponent who is far from easy. They played a good game at home. Its players have exceptional skills. We must be very careful in this return match. The confrontation will undoubtedly not be easy."
The latter also stated that his players had scrupulously followed his instructions during the first leg and were therefore able to neutralize their opponent and that this good result is due to his "prior in-depth knowledge of Horoya".
