Wydad Casablanca Aims for African Football League Title in Final Against Mamelodi Sundowns

Wydad Casablanca will face the South African club Mamelodi Sundowns this Sunday, November 12, 2023 at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria in the final of the first edition of the African Football League (AFL), the brand new competition of the Confederation of African Football established in partnership with FIFA. How much will they earn in case of victory?

After dominating Mamelodi Sundowns in the first leg final (2-1), Wydad de Casablanca is determined to win the return leg to clinch the African Football League (AFL) title. "The technical qualities and experience of the players allow them to play at the highest level of African competitions," said the coach of the Red and White club, Adil Ramzi, during the press conference preceding the return leg of the AFL final, scheduled for this Sunday at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, also assuring that his players "are motivated and intend to play with the same rhythm and the same spirit as the first leg, in order to face an opponent who has a vision and produces good play on the African level".

For comparison, the Casablancans who have reached the semi-finals of the Champions League 7 times since the 2016 edition, have won two titles (2017, 2022) and lost two finals (2019 and 2023), while Mamelodi Sundowns is the winner of only one Champions League title in 2016. The former will try to win the final to inscribe their names in history while the latter will seek to expand their trophy cabinet.

In case of victory, Wydad Casablanca will receive the sum of 4 million dollars. As for the runner-up, he will receive 3 million USD. The semi-finalists will pocket 1.7 million USD.
