South African Coach Denies 'Black Magic' Claims After Shock African Champions League Upset

Accused of having used black magic to beat Wydad Casablanca (1-0) at the Grand Stadium in Marrakech on Saturday in the African Champions League, the South African coach of the Botswanan club Jwaneng Galaxy FC, Morena Ramoreboli, exploded with anger.

While they largely dominated the match (80% possession, 22 shots (9 on target) and 12 corners against only 4 attempts, two of which were on target and one corner for the Red and Whites), Yahya Jabrane’s teammates lost to the less experienced Botswanan club Jwaneng Galaxy FC (1-0) on Saturday at the Grand Stadium in Marrakech for the first day of the group stage. A victory that a Moroccan journalist attributed to "black magic".

Addressing Morena Ramoreboli, he insinuated that the victory of the Botswanan club would be the result of a "form of black magic". The journalist was referring to a scene of the Botswanan players. They were "seen pouring a clear liquid, similar to water, next to the corner post, before the match," reports CNews. This comment provoked the anger of the South African technician. "Ah! You are unfair and now you want to harm me, he said. You say we won thanks to black magic! Don’t disrespect us!" After which, he slammed the door.

WAC will face ASEC in Côte d’Ivoire on December 2 for the second day.
