World Cup Star Sofyan Amrabat Struggles to Maintain Form with Fiorentina

Moroccan international, Sofyan Amrabat, failed to reproduce at the club the feats achieved during the Qatar World Cup. At least that’s what the supporters and the media reproach him after the goal conceded on Sunday against Empoli.
The former Hellas Verona midfielder was one of the best players in Qatar and was even included in the tournament’s team of the tournament, sparking the interest of some European clubs, including Barcelona and Chelsea during the January transfer window. However, he has not been able to produce the same level of performance for his club in the second half of the season and cost Fiorentina a goal in the 1-1 draw on Sunday against Empoli.
The Moroccan international lost the ball at the edge of the penalty area in the first half, allowing Empoli to open the scoring thanks to Nicolò Cambiaghi.
Amrabat was rated 4/10 by La Gazzetta dello Sport and was the worst player on the pitch, according to the newspaper.
The 26-year-old player has not lived up to expectations since his return from Qatar and has never received a rating higher than 6/10 on Fantacalcio.it, a site that analyzes the performance of players in the Italian championship.
Amrabat had tried to force his transfer to Barcelona in January, not showing up for training and pushing for a transfer on social media. He was sidelined from the team before being reintegrated after apologizing to the club.
The Moroccan international’s contract expires in June 2024, but Fiorentina has an option to extend his stay at the club for another year.
