Walid Regragui stays: Morocco prepares for the 2026 World Cup

Walid Regragui remains in charge. In a statement released this Friday, February 6, the FRMF “categorically denied” press reports announcing the national coach’s resignation the day after the AFCON final, which Morocco lost to Senegal. The governing body reaffirmed that the coach is continuing his mission in accordance with his contract and is focused on the upcoming fixtures.

The focus is now on the 2026 World Cup. To prepare Group C, where Morocco will face Brazil, Scotland and Haiti, the staff has scheduled two major tests in Europe during the March international break. The Atlas Lions will face Ecuador in Madrid, at the Metropolitano. A second match, currently being finalized, should pit them against Paraguay in France, with options such as Parc des Princes or Stade Pierre-Mauroy under consideration.

The World Cup schedule has meanwhile been set: Morocco will begin its tournament with a highly anticipated clash against Brazil on June 13 at MetLife Stadium (New Jersey), before facing Scotland on June 19 in Boston and concluding the group stage against Haiti on June 24 in Atlanta.
