Morocco, Ecuador and Paraguay: Atlas Lions' World Cup Preparation

Two weeks after losing the Africa Cup of Nations final, the Moroccan national team is finalizing its schedule for the March international break. The Atlas Lions will face Ecuador in Spain and are in advanced negotiations to play Paraguay in France, their final rehearsal before the World Cup this summer.

The focus is now on the 2026 World Cup. For the last international window before the global tournament, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has opted for South American opponents. The first meeting is now official: Morocco will face Ecuador in Madrid, at the Estadio Metropolitano, Atlético’s home ground. The announcement was confirmed by the president of the Ecuadorian federation.

For the second match, negotiations have moved away from the Uruguay option initially mentioned by the local press and are now focusing on Paraguay, according to Footmercato. The match is expected to take place in France, although the host stadium has yet to be determined. While rumors have mentioned the Stade de France, other options are on the table, notably Parc des Princes in Paris or Stade Pierre-Mauroy in Lille.
