Resignation of Walid Regragui? The response of the FRMF
No official decision has been made regarding the future of Walid Regragui, while an evaluation meeting between the coach and the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, is to be held shortly to prepare for the 2026 World Cup deadline.
Sources within the Moroccan federation have told Alyaoum24 that the rumors of Walid Regragui’s departure are unfounded. No resignation has been officially filed with the federal administration. The organization stresses that no decision has yet been made on whether or not to retain the national coach, thus contradicting the speculation that appeared in the press after the end of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
A working meeting under the leadership of Fouzi Lekjaa will allow an analysis of the results obtained during the continental tournament. This meeting will determine the conditions for a possible continuation of the collaboration until the 2026 World Cup scheduled in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The discussions will focus on the technical evaluation of the performances and on the strategy to be adopted for the next international deadlines in the event that a continuity agreement is validated.
The climate of uncertainty follows a CAN final marked by refereeing controversies and Morocco’s defeat against Senegal (1-0). The match was punctuated by a Senegalese goal disallowed by referee Jean-Jacques Ndala, followed by a penalty not converted by Brahim Diaz. The temporary withdrawal of the Senegalese players from the field as a sign of protest added to the tension of a match whose outcome now weighs on the debate surrounding the Moroccan technical staff.
