Morocco’s Football Federation Backs Coach Regragui Despite Recent Criticism

Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), has confirmed Walid Regragui in his position as coach of the Moroccan national team. This decision comes as calls for his departure had been made following the team’s recent performances.
The coach’s retention was discussed after the matches against Niger and Tanzania, counting towards the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The performances of the Atlas Lions in these matches were considered unconvincing and sparked the discontent of some Moroccan supporters.
Faced with this situation, the FRMF has put an end to the speculation about the future of the coach. The federal body has expressed its "full confidence" in Walid Regragui and has refused to consider the hypothesis of a dismissal. The federation considers him the appropriate coach to lead the selection in view of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Fouzi Lekjaa’s decision to retain the coach is based on his record since taking office. Out of 34 matches led by Walid Regragui, Morocco has recorded 23 wins, 7 draws and 4 losses. This record is considered positive by the federation’s management.
