Ziyech Challenges Israel’s ’Self-Defense’ Claim in Provocative Middle East Post
Moroccan international footballer Hakim Ziyech has once again taken a stance on the conflict in the Middle East, by posting on his social media a message criticizing the military operations carried out by Israel.
In an "Instagram story", he shared a list of countries in the region that would have been bombed by the Hebrew state since October 7, 2023, questioning his subscribers on the notion of self-defense.
Ziyech’s post consists of an image where several countries, including Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Iran, Qatar, Lebanon as well as Gaza, appear in red. He accompanies this illustration with a direct question: "So, what is the real problem?? Or do you continue to call it self-defense?", questioning the justification of the Israeli strikes.
This is not the first time that Ziyech has expressed his solidarity with the Palestinian people. He had already publicly criticized the responsibility of several countries, including Morocco, in what he had described as "support for genocide". This strong stance had then provoked strong reactions and even a supposed dismissal from the Moroccan team.
