Walid Regragui Resigns: Morocco Faces World Cup Coaching Crisis

This is a seismic shock for Moroccan football. Walid Regragui, the architect of the 2022 World Cup campaign and finalist at AFCON 2025, has decided to leave his post. According to information from Foot Mercato, the 50-year-old coach officially submitted his resignation to his superiors, signaling a desire to move on after a competition described as grueling.

The decision comes the day after a dramatic final lost to Senegal, sealed by Brahim Diaz’s missed Panenka in stoppage time. Despite this failure at the final hurdle, Regragui has an historic record: he led Morocco to its first continental final since 2004, confirming the team’s status after its World Cup semifinal appearance.
