Walid Regragui Named New Morocco National Team Coach After Champions League Success

It’s official, Walid Regragui has just been appointed the new coach of the Moroccan national football team. He succeeds Vahid Halilhodzic, who was fired at the beginning of the month for incompatibility of mood with certain players, including Hakim Ziyech.
The new coach of the Atlas Lions is no stranger to the world of football. A former Moroccan international, Walid Regragui was the coach of Wydad Casablanca last season. His performances with the club are still fresh in people’s minds, as he won the CAF Champions League and the championship.
His name had been circulating for a few weeks, so it was no surprise that the federation presented him on Wednesday afternoon at a press conference. He is the one who will have to lead the Moroccan national team to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He has signed a four-year contract.
According to many sports experts, Walid Regragui’s satisfactory results have worked in his favor, making him the natural candidate. He takes over the management of the Atlas Lions in an atmosphere marked by discord, which many supporters hope to see resolved before Morocco’s participation in the World Cup.
