Morocco’s Ziyech Set for National Team Return Ahead of World Cup Prep Matches

Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech could be recalled by the new coach of the Atlas Lions. Walid Regragui would thus put an end to a year of sidelining the Chelsea attacking midfielder, whom the former coach Vahid Halilhodžić accused of lack of commitment to the national team.
The name of Hakim Ziyech would appear on the list of players called up to participate in the friendly matches against Chile and Paraguay, as preparation for the World Cup. The two matches will be held in Spain on September 23 and 27 and will allow the Moroccan players to prepare for the World Cup, which will take place in Qatar from November 20 to December 18. Morocco finds itself in the same group as Croatia, Belgium and Canada.
Supporters hope that Hakim Ziyech will be part of the team. A dispute with the Franco-Bosnian coach had forced him to break with the national team. At the intervention of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, the player had been called up for a training camp, but he had preferred to decline the offer, stating that he no longer saw himself collaborating with Halilhodžić.
Will Hakim Ziyech agree to join the national team after a year’s absence? Many believe that the presence of a new coach is a strong argument, since the player had pointed out that he would only return to the Lions’ den if coach Vahid left. Halilhodžić was fired last month. There is therefore nothing to prevent the player from reuniting with his teammates.
