Walid Regragui cleared by CAF after the Morocco-DRC match incidents

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has decided to cancel the sanctions that had been imposed on Walid Regragui, the coach of the Moroccan national team.
These sanctions followed incidents that occurred at the end of the match between Morocco and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) during the second day of the group stage of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN). Thus, Regragui will be able to be on the bench for the next match of the Atlas Lions against South Africa.
Walid Regragui had initially been suspended for four matches, including two with a suspended sentence, and had also received a fine. The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) had appealed this decision, considering it unfair, arguing that Regragui had at no time failed to respect the principles of fair play.
The confrontation between Morocco and the DRC had ended with an altercation between Walid Regragui and Chancel Mbemba, the captain of the DRC, in San Pedro. The Moroccan coach and the Olympique de Marseille player had exchanged words, which had almost triggered a brawl between the players of the two teams.
