Six goals and three assists : the Atlas Lions’ crazy weekend
A Bundesliga hat-trick, a Ligue 1 brace and three assists: the Moroccans got their European season off to a flying start. Younes Ebnoutalib, Gessime Yassine, Ismaël Saibari and Amine El Ouazzani delivered the weekend’s standout performances.
Younes Ebnoutalib made the biggest impact. Starting for Eintracht Frankfurt away at Union Berlin, the Moroccan striker scored all three of his team’s goals in the 3-3 draw.
Having fallen behind in the third minute, Frankfurt equalized through Ebnoutalib in the 10th. Less than a minute later, the Moroccan took advantage of a defensive error to complete a brace. He completed his hat-trick in the 67th minute, volleying home a ball parried away in the box, according to Eintracht Frankfurt’s official match report.
His team was then leading 3-1 before conceding two goals late in the match. The result does not detract from Ebnoutalib’s performance, as he scored the first three goals of his Bundesliga career on the opening day. Head coach Mohamed Ouahbi was in the stands to watch him.

In France, Gessime Yassine helped Strasbourg turn the match around against Lens. Trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Alsatians won 2-1 thanks to the young Moroccan international’s first two Ligue 1 goals.
The 20-year-old winger first equalized before giving Racing the victory. RC Strasbourg highlighted the Moroccan’s decisive role in this first win of the season. Already involved with the Moroccan senior national team, Gessime thus confirms his change in stature after winning the world title with the under-20s.
Saibari makes a successful debut at Bayern
Ismaël Saibari needed only thirty minutes to make his Bundesliga debut memorable. Coming on in the 61st minute against Stuttgart, the Moroccan midfielder provided two assists in Bayern Munich’s 5-1 victory.
He first set up Aleksandar Pavlović in the 82nd minute, then sent Luis Díaz through in added time. According to Bayern Munich, Saibari is only the sixth player since detailed statistics began being collected in 2004 to provide two assists in his first Bundesliga match.
This debut extends the Moroccan’s spectacular rise, transferred from PSV to Bayern in a deal that could reach 55 million euros.

Amine El Ouazzani completes this review with a goal and an assist in Angers’ 3-1 win at Auxerre. The striker was involved in Angers’ second goal before scoring the third, his first in Ligue 1.
Involved in two goals, El Ouazzani was one of the leading figures in Angers’ first win of the season, notes L’Équipe.
In total, the four Moroccans combined for six goals and three assists between Friday and Sunday. Ebnoutalib and Gessime are moving even closer to Mohamed Ouahbi’s plans, while Saibari and El Ouazzani have made a perfect start to their new season.
