Virtual Summer University Connects Young Moroccan Diaspora Amid Pandemic

Contrary to previous editions, the celebration of the national day of the immigrant, celebrated every August 10, has seen a new format. Due to the coronavirus, the delegated ministry in charge of Moroccans residing abroad organized the 2020 edition of the summer university in digital version.

This decision was made to circumvent the pandemic and strengthen the link between young Moroccans in the World and their country of origin, reports L’Économiste. This meeting was organized from August 5 to 6, 2020 with young people of different profiles, aged 18 to 25, to present their expectations, visions and ambitions.

This exchange platform also made it possible to present the contribution and facilities of the kingdom to this young Moroccan generation abroad in order to offer them investment opportunities. According to the same daily, this platform also made it possible to welcome the various concerns related to the notion of belonging among young Moroccans residing abroad in the light of the current situation. These are young Moroccans residing in France, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, China, Tunisia and Algeria.

On the menu of this meeting, three virtual seminars broadcast live and moderated by specialized experts on various topics, namely the place accorded to the Moroccan youth residing abroad as a bridge for strengthening friendship and cooperation between Morocco and their country of residence. It also revolved around the various problems and identity issues concerning the new generations and the consolidation of cultural and civilizational values facilitating the influence of Moroccan culture.

In her speech, Nezha El Ouafi, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, said that her department has launched several measures to ensure the continuity of all services throughout the pandemic period. According to her, two cells have been set up, one dedicated to monitoring and guidance. The second took into account the reception, monitoring and remote processing of requests.
