Violent Clash at Moroccan Migrant Center Leaves Officers Injured, One Migrant Shot

An investigation has been opened after clashes between police and sub-Saharan migrants, in a shelter, on Friday, May 1, 2020 in Laâyoune. These migrants tried to flee the center.
These individuals, numbering 78 people, used kitchen utensils to attack the police before storming the outer door of the shelter in an attempt to violate the health confinement procedures, according to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) in a statement.
This situation forced a member of a mobile police unit to use his service weapon to fire two rubber warning shots, followed by a third bullet that hit an illegal immigrant, slightly injuring him, the DGSN said.
Calm then returned to the shelter. Four police officers and as many immigrants were taken to the hospital after suffering bruises and contusions due to a scuffle and violence with the members of the center.
