Violent Clash Between Locals and Nomads in Morocco’s Safi Province Leaves 12 Injured

Several people were injured, some very seriously, in what appears to be a battle in the El Bkhati region, dependent on the province of Safi. The conflict pitted residents of the region against nomadic tribes coming from localities in the South.
No less than 12 people were taken to the Safi hospital after bloody clashes between residents of Douar Oulad Houmane and nomadic Sahrawis. Two of the hospitalized people would suffer from very serious injuries. The nomads arrived in the El Bkhati region some time ago, according to Alyaoum24.
One of the injured people had to be taken to the "Ibn Tofail" hospital in Marrakech, as he was suffering from a very serious skull fracture.
Alyaoum24 explains that the residents of the region did not accept the presence of the nomads, seeing them as aggressors and a danger to their land and livestock. They would therefore have decided to expel them. This has degenerated since the end of last week and the conflict has lasted until June 17, 2019.
A large number of gendarmes and auxiliary forces were dispatched to the scene to end the hostilities. But they were such that several members of these two bodies were also injured.
