Violent Clash Erupts in Barcelona Suburb After Traffic Stop Escalates

The local police of Mataró, in the Barcelona region, were attacked on Tuesday by hundreds of Moroccans, after fining a Moroccan who had parked his car illegally.
The incident occurred around 8:00 p.m., when a local police patrol was about to fine a man of Moroccan origin who had parked his car in double parking. The driver refused to provide his identity and did not want to comply with the agents’ instructions, starting to shout. The situation prompted hundreds of people, mostly Moroccans, to approach to see what was happening, causing disturbances, reports Antena3.

In a few minutes, the situation degenerated, with curious passers-by and neighborhood residents watching the scene from their balconies, starting to attack the police by throwing stones, plates, bottles and all kinds of objects that fell into their hands. Assailed, the agents had to withdraw to call for reinforcements. The clashes continued late into the night.
The Moroccan at the origin of the troubles was eventually arrested. The police have opened an investigation to identify and locate the other troublemakers. For his part, the mayor of Mataró firmly condemned this incident, assuring that measures will be taken to prevent such violent acts from happening again.
