Moroccan Man Gets 5-Year Sentence for Ramming Police Car, Injuring Officers in Spain

The Palma court has sentenced a 41-year-old Moroccan to five years in prison for intentionally ramming a national police vehicle in Son Banya, injuring two officers and causing significant damage to the vehicle.
The Moroccan was sentenced to five years in prison for a crime of assault with injury and to pay compensation of 6,000 euros. The Unified Police Union (SUP) described the sentence as "historic" on Sunday.
The facts date back to December 19, 2020 in Son Banya. The officers on patrol in their car had intercepted the Moroccan and seized a bag of cocaine he had just bought. They also fined him for violating the curfew then in effect due to the Covid-19 health crisis. The defendant, a drug addict, waited for the officers in his black Seat Leon car. And seeing them arrive, he pressed the accelerator and rammed the patrol vehicle head-on.
The two surprised police officers called for reinforcements. A device was quickly activated and the Moroccan was arrested. The Palma local police officers subjected him to a breathalyzer test, which was positive. The two officers were taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment.
