Vigil Held for Moroccan Woman Killed by Ex-Partner in Epinay-sur-Seine

About a hundred people took part on Thursday, December 9, 2021 in a white march in memory of Bouchra Bouali, a 44-year-old Moroccan woman, stabbed to death by her ex-partner, - a man who had just been released from prison - on the evening of November 26 in Epinay-sur-Seine. Some claim that the forty-year-old was a victim of the dysfunctions of the justice system.
Local elected officials, activists, relatives of the victim and residents took part in this march which started from the foot of the tower where Bouchra Bouali lived and where she was killed, to end at the town hall of Epinay-sur-Seine. The demonstrators are in shock. They observed a minute of silence at the end of the demonstration.
Bouchra Bouali had been stabbed to death by her ex-partner on November 26 in front of her home. She had just returned from shopping. Khalid, 51, had been released from prison after serving a one-year sentence, including six months suspended. He had been convicted on July 27 for domestic violence, home invasion and death threats and had also been banned from approaching Bouchra, whom he had been verbally and physically abusing since 2019. The victim was unaware that her ex-partner had been released from prison under a remission of sentence.
"The one who gave the knife is the State, it’s justice!" launched her brother Abdel Bouali. "She said ’I’ll be worried the day he gets out’, that is to say from December 8th," the initially scheduled release date of her ex-partner without remission, he testified. "We told her ’don’t worry we’ll find a solution, you’ll go to Morocco with the kids’".
To prevent such cases in the future, the Bobigny prosecutor’s office intends to quickly conclude a protocol to systematically inform victims of the release from detention of their aggressor.
