Woman Fatally Stabbed by Ex-Partner in Épinay-sur-Seine After His Release from Prison

A 44-year-old woman of Moroccan origin was stabbed to death on Friday in Épinay-sur-Seine (Seine-Saint-Denis) by her ex-partner, who had just been released from prison after serving his sentence for domestic violence.
The victim, Bouchra Bouali, crossed paths with her ex-partner, Khalid, as she was returning home. The man, aged 51, was released from prison after serving a one-year sentence, including six months suspended. He had been convicted on July 27 for domestic violence, home invasion and death threats, reports Le Parisien. The judge had also banned Khalid from approaching Bouchra, who had been suffering verbal and physical abuse from her ex-partner since 2019. To protect the victim, the justice system had given her a smartphone with an emergency button to alert the authorities in case of an attack.

Khalid was released in October, after two months of incarceration at the Fleury-Mérogis prison. Upon his release, he went to his ex-partner’s home, where she activated the alert on her phone, which led to his arrest and detention. A few days ago, he was released again, but his ex-partner was unaware of the decision. On Friday, she was not wearing the alert phone when she was fatally stabbed in front of the building where she lived.
Firefighters and SAMU quickly rushed to the scene, but were unable to save Bouchra. "A knife that was likely used in the crime was found in a nearby bush," the Bobigny prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
