VAR Drama: Chelsea’s Ziyech Red Card Overturned in Tense Tottenham Clash
The match between Chelsea and Tottenham took place in a tense atmosphere with the sending off of Hakim Ziyech for a red card and then his reinstatement a few seconds later.
The Tottenham Hotsur stadium witnessed a surprising scene on Sunday afternoon during the match between Chelsea and Tottenham. While the two teams were under pressure as they were unable to take the lead, Hakim Ziyech slapped Emerson Royal in the heat of the action, and this in front of the referee who did not hesitate to show a red card.
The Moroccan midfielder was leaving the game when he was called back by the referee who had time to consult the VAR images. This forced him to change the red card to yellow, allowing the Atlas Lion to continue the match. But Chelsea will be defeated thanks to the goals scored by Olivier Skipp in the 46th minute and Harry Kane in the 82nd minute.
The same source says it does not understand the reasons why the referee changed his mind when Ziyech really committed the foul for which he was sent off. The media even goes so far as to point out that it is a refereeing error that "is likely to be talked about in England".
