The validity of the Moroccan passport soon to be 10 years ?
Faced with the inconveniences caused by the rapid expiration of passports, the demand to extend their validity to ten years is resurfacing in Morocco. A much-awaited reform to relieve both citizens and the administration.
This gap becomes particularly problematic for frequent travelers. While many Moroccan supporters are preparing to fly to the United States next summer to follow the World Cup, many are facing a frustrating obstacle: if they do have American visas valid for ten years, their passports expire long before, forcing them to relaunch costly procedures.

Seized by these repeated complaints, the parliamentary advisor Khalid Satti has brought the case before the Minister of the Interior through a written question. The elected official is calling for an alignment with the standards of several foreign countries by doubling the lifespan of the precious travel document.
For the parliamentarian, this evolution is essential to relieve families and the elderly, but also to free up the administration. According to him, the adoption of a longer validity will directly "contribute to improving the quality of services and reducing congestion", all without compromising security and technical requirements. He also proposes to keep the same passport number for life, on the model of the national identity card.

Currently, this wish is still facing a clear regulatory barrier. Article 6 of Decree No. 2.08.310 establishing the biometric passport stipulates that this document is issued for a maximum period of five years, strictly non-renewable. For minors under three years of age, this validity is even reduced to three years.
