Unprecedented Floods Ravage Tinghir, Morocco: Roads Closed, Homes Destroyed

The populations of Tinghir have been going through difficult times since the evening of Wednesday, September 4. Monstrous floods caused by rains have caused significant material damage, leading to the closure of National Road No. 12 connecting Tinghir to Béni Mellal, due to the rise in the level of the Drâa river.
Local sources confirm that these floods are of an unprecedented scale. The enormous material damage visible in the city is proof of this. According to the Barlamane.com website, one can see the difficulty of the situation by watching the videos that have been widely shared on social networks. Indeed, houses, vehicles and shops have been damaged and destroyed in places, following the overflow of the waters of the Drâa river.
It must be emphasized that this type of situation caused by floods is frequent in Tinghir, which each time has to face serious cases of damage to buildings and the property of the inhabitants, not to mention the significant destruction of the crops of the farmers. These are disasters of an incalculable magnitude, which require the intervention of the authorities, in order to reduce the suffering of the populations.
