Flash Floods in Morocco Kill 11, Spark Criticism Over Lack of Safety Measures

At least seven deaths were recorded in the Taroudant region yesterday, Wednesday, August 28, after heavy rains. The local authorities are now being criticized for not having taken the necessary measures.
The heavy rainfall with a stormy character, which had coincided with the end of a football match, caused at least eleven deaths and several missing persons. Material damage was also recorded in several localities.
Videos posted on social media showed a horrible scene of a building completely destroyed by the torrential rains, sweeping away all the people who had taken refuge there.
A football field had been built in the bed of a dried-up river where the risk of flooding is very high. Despite the warnings of some civil society actors, the local authorities had not taken their grievances into account.
