Tunisian Rapper Balti Denies Polisario Support at Mawazine Festival Press Conference

Tunisian rapper Balti denies his support for the Polisario during a press conference on the sidelines of his participation in the 19th edition of the Mawazine Rythmes du Monde Festival, which will take place from June 21 to 29, 2024 in Rabat and Salé.
Regarding the Sahara issue, Balti assures that he has never supported the Polisario to the detriment of Morocco. According to his explanations, his alleged affront to Morocco came from a fictitious account and had nothing to do with the truth. According to the rapper, social networks create discord. He stated that he greatly respects Morocco and Moroccan sovereignty. "I respect Morocco and I do not interfere in its politics," he said.
In May, Moroccan Internet users had launched a campaign calling for the cancellation of Balti’s concert at the 2024 Mawazine Rythmes du Monde festival. They asked the authorities not to allow him to perform in Morocco. They accused him of having displayed a Polisario flag alongside those of the Maghreb countries in support of Soolking, who was prevented from performing in Morocco. In 2019, the Algerian singer had brandished the Algerian, Moroccan and Polisario flags during a concert in Bilbao, Spain, thus provoking the anger of many Moroccan Internet users who attacked him on social networks.
