Moroccan Singer Samira Saïd Recalls First Royal Performance for King Hassan II at Age 12

Moroccan singer Samira Saïd met the late King Hassan II for the first time during a musical performance at the royal palace.
Samira Saïd opens up about her relationship with Hassan II. During a press conference on the sidelines of her participation in the 19th edition of the Mawazine Festival, she recounted her first meeting with the late king. She said she entered the royal palace at the age of 12 to perform a set of songs that had impressed the father of Mohammed VI. She specified that the late king had asked her to perform two French songs in the presence of the former Egyptian President Anwar el-Sadat. According to her, Hassan II had a distinctive artistic taste and sense.
The Moroccan diva also mentioned a project close to her heart. It is the establishment of a special academy for the training of young talents in the capital, Rabat. She hinted that her commitments had somewhat slowed down her ambition, but the project is still ongoing.
Samira Saïd will perform this Friday on the stage of the Mohammed V Theater, as part of the Mawazine Rythmes du Monde festival, which continues until this Saturday, June 30.
