Trial Begins for Brutal Rape and Murder of Moroccan Woman in Rabat

The trial of the assailants of Hanane bent Mellah, victim of physical and sexual torture that led to her death, began this week in the Court of Appeal of Rabat.
Prosecuted for premeditated voluntary manslaughter, use of torture tools, aggravated kidnapping of rape with violence, public drunkenness and consumption of psychotropic drugs, the main accused faces a minimum sentence of life imprisonment.
In June 2019, Hanane had been raped, tortured and left for dead in Rabat by her partner, a man in his fifties. The video of the scene, of unparalleled cruelty, had shocked public opinion as well as many associations.
