Tragedy Strikes Morocco Rally: Portuguese Rider's Fatal Crash Shakes Motorsport World

The Morocco rally was once again mourned this year. A rider participating in the competition died on Friday, October 17, during the last stage of the event, after a crash that occurred in the final kilometers of the course.

The tragedy cost the life of Portuguese motorcycle rider Jorge Brandao. He crashed just two kilometers from the finish of the fifth and final stage, a 216 km loop around Erfoud. He was participating in the event for the second time.

Quickly taken care of by the race medical team, the rider was evacuated by helicopter to the Erfoud hospital. Unfortunately, his death was confirmed at 1:55 pm local time, as announced by the organizers.

Jorge Brandao had ambitions to participate in the next Dakar in 2026 with the Old Friends Rally Team. His death recalls the tragedy that occurred the previous year on this same rally, where French rider Frédéric Baudry had lost his life during the first stage.
