Tragic Deception: Young Senegalese Footballer’s Dream Ends in Ghana Murder

The Senegalese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Saturday the death of this young goalkeeper, found dead the day before in Kumasi, Ghana. "The initial investigations carried out by the consular services indicate that Mr. Touré, a young Senegalese footballer, would have been the victim of a fraud and extortion network," the ministry said in a statement. An investigation has been opened to determine the exact circumstances of this tragedy.

The victim, Cheikh Touré, is a young Senegalese goalkeeper who played at the Esprit Foot academy in Yeumbeul (Dakar). The young player had left his country to join Morocco where he hoped to undergo trials. But he is said to have come across fake recruiters, and was then kidnapped by a group of armed individuals in Ghana.

The kidnappers are said to have demanded a ransom from the player’s family, threatening to kill him. They eventually carried out their threat. Following this tragedy, the Senegalese Ministry of Sports has called on clubs, academies, coaches and parents "to be more cautious in the face of unverified offers of trials or transfers abroad." The department also advises players to immigrate legally.
