Tough blow for Nayef Aguerd (and the Moroccan team)

The operation aims to treat an injury sustained in the fall of 2025, just before the last Africa Cup of Nations. Despite persistent pain, the former West Ham player had chosen to play consecutive matches upon his return to Marseille, but his current physical condition now prevents him from performing at his best level.

This decision was validated after joint reflection with the medical staff and the Marseille management. The player, recruited for around 20 million euros last summer, had already envisaged this scenario since the elimination of OM in the Champions League at the end of January.

The intervention must take place quickly to allow the defender to take advantage of the March break for his convalescence. The club is counting on an absence of a few weeks before a hoped-for return for the decisive last matches of the Ligue 1 season.

For the Moroccan central defender, this passage on the operating table is also a key step towards the 2026 World Cup. Aguerd aims to regain his full abilities to represent Morocco under the orders of the new national coach, Mohamed Ouahbi.
