West Ham Defender Nayef Aguerd Likely Out for Season with Ankle Injury

It’s another tough blow for West Ham and its manager David Moyes: central defender Nayef Aguerd could miss the rest of the season due to an ankle injury.
The Moroccan international, who had already been absent for several weeks this season due to injuries, relapsed during the second leg of the Europa Conference League quarter-finals against Bayer Leverkusen on April 18.
Since then, Aguerd has not played again and his absence has been painfully felt in the Hammers’ defense, who have conceded twelve goals in their last three matches. West Ham will host Luton Town this Saturday, May 11, and will travel to Manchester to face City on May 19 for the last match of the season, and will have to do without their key defender.
This absence, if confirmed, will also be a blow for Walid Regragui, who will have to do without one of his favorite defenders for the next two matches counting towards the 2026 World Cup qualifications. The Atlas Lions are indeed due to face Zambia on June 3 and Congo, at home, on June 10.
In addition to the sporting impact, this new injury could also have consequences on Aguerd’s future at West Ham. The Atlas Lion is coveted by Olympique de Marseille and several Saudi clubs, and his departure this summer seems increasingly likely.
