Torrential Rains Devastate Fishing Industry in Morocco’s Chefchaouen Province

The torrential rains that poured down on the province of Chefchaouen on Wednesday caused significant damage to boats moored in the fishing centers of "Arkoub", "Sidi Yahya Aârab" and "Jnane Niche".
In its assessment of the consequences of the disaster, the Mediterranean Sea Fisheries Chamber (CPMM) indicated that the rainfall blocked access to several fishing sites in addition to the destruction of many marine equipment, such as boats, nets and engines.
In detail, "22 boats were damaged at the Jnane Niche center, 20 at the Arkoub center and 36 at the Sidi Yahya Aârab center," the body specifies in a statement, adding that the water swept away several objects and properties belonging to the inhabitants.
The Chamber stated that the damage caused to the maritime fishing professionals in this area prevents them from carrying out their usual activities, which requires urgent intervention to allow the people concerned to resume their work as soon as possible, after a stoppage of more than a week.
