Top Moroccan Military Commander Implicated in Major Drug Trafficking Ring

More than thirty people were brought before the Specialized Chamber for Financial Crimes of the Court of Appeal in Rabat, for international drug trafficking. 18 officers of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) were present at this hearing. Among them was the Commander of the 6th Border Guard Company.
According to the daily newspaper Assabah, several officers of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) are involved in this case, some of whom were tried by the Military Court for violating military instructions.
The scandal broke out when the Commander of the 6th Border Guard Company, in charge of 16 border posts, had thrown his mobile phone away as the 16th regiment was chasing members of a drug trafficking network. A check of his phone confirmed his link with the criminal network, to whom he had advised, according to the messages collected on the phone, not to proceed with the loading of the goods.
The newspaper adds that several raids by the border guard elements, under the responsibility of the Commander, were limited to the seizure of goods without arresting the traffickers, arousing the suspicions of the General Staff.
