Top Islamic Scholar: Normalizing Ties with Israel Violates Sharia Law
While the United States is calling on Arab countries, including Morocco, to normalize their relations with Israel, voices are rising in opposition. Ahmed Raissouni, president of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, declares that this "is contrary to Sharia".
"(...) The position of Sharia regarding normalization, with these meanings, can only be severe prohibition and total rejection. (...) Normalization with Israel is contrary to Sharia," he said in an interview with the Algerian media Echorouk. "Even the human and moral position" is also, he added.
"The prohibition of normalization is, in fact, nothing other than a prohibition against injustice, violation, occupation and the various types of crimes that the Zionists have committed and are committing for eighty years," emphasizes the former head of the Unity and Reform Movement (MUR), the ideological wing of the PJD (currently in power in Morocco).
According to Mr. Raissouni, this normalization, which is a new term developed by the other party, and to which the Arabs are subordinate, aims to get Israel out of the desperate situation in which it lives in its environment due to the total rejection it has received from all the peoples of the region.
This is why accepting it, he believes, is synonymous with supporting "the perpetuity of its occupation, a reward for its crimes and an encouragement to continue in this direction".
