Tetouan’s Fast-Food Crackdown: Popular Eateries Shuttered in Hygiene Blitz

Several fast-food establishments have been temporarily closed following a series of recent sanitary inspection campaigns carried out in the city of Tetouan and its surroundings.
Renowned restaurants located in the city center have received a temporary closure order for non-compliance with food hygiene rules, after the passage of local health services. These inspections aim to ensure that restaurants comply with the current hygiene and safety standards.
Formal notices have also been sent to the owners of other establishments so that they comply with legal requirements. According to the authorities, the influx of visitors and therefore of customers to be satisfied during this summer period has led some restaurants to neglect basic hygiene protocols.
Last summer, the Tetouan region recorded several cases of food poisoning, linked to the consumption of spoiled products in fast-food establishments. Faced with this situation, civil society actors have called for regular and rigorous health checks of these establishments in order to preserve public health.
For their part, the competent authorities have announced that the inspection campaigns will continue in the coming weeks, reiterating their commitment to food safety and ensuring strict compliance with the texts in force on hygiene in all restaurants and fast-food establishments.
