Health Scare: Two Popular Grill Restaurants Shuttered Over Rotten Meat and Illegal Oil Scheme

The authorities in Martil have proceeded to close two restaurants specializing in grilled meat, after the discovery of spoiled products and used oils intended for illegal sale.
This closure decision follows the sanitary control operation carried out a week ago. The inspection of the first establishment closed revealed the presence of a considerable quantity of spoiled meat. As this meat was unfit for consumption, the authorities ordered the immediate closure of the establishment as a precautionary measure.
The second establishment was closed after the discovery of spoiled food items and a significant quantity of used cooking oil intended for illegal sale. The consumption of these oils represents a risk to public health, which is why the authorities decided to order the closure of the premises.
The operation was carried out by mixed commissions composed of representatives from the Ministry of Health, the Interior and Commerce. These commissions are part of the continuous monitoring program put in place by the local authorities to ensure compliance with the prevailing sanitary and hygiene standards by restaurant owners and managers or fast food establishments.
The local authorities specify that these unannounced control operations will continue in order to preserve the health of consumers, especially during this summer period when many domestic and foreign tourists, including Moroccans residing abroad (MREs), flock to the cities of northern Morocco to enjoy their holidays. They have also called on citizens to report any cases of food poisoning or violations of sanitary standards.
