New terminal at Tetouan airport: when?

The project to expand Tetouan’s Saniat Rmel airport and its terminal has not started, after the two calls for tenders launched in 2021 by the National Airports Office (ONDA) which proved unsuccessful.
ONDA had launched calls for tenders for the expansion of the airport and its small terminal. The work, relating to the construction of a new runway and related infrastructure, should last six months and cost 239.58 million dirhams. But the calls for tenders having failed, the extension was limited to the runway, leaving the terminal in its cramped and overloaded state when several planes arrive.
The Saniat Rmel airport records the highest number of arrivals in the kingdom per year, with more than 100,000 passengers. Considering the upcoming opening of new domestic and international routes to and from Tetouan airport, Moroccans from around the world, originally from the city and surrounding towns, are calling for the rapid implementation of the project to expand the arrival and departure terminal to bring it up to international standards and welcome tourists in better conditions.
