Moroccan Tax Authorities Probe Private Doctors for Suspected Income Underreporting

Moroccan doctors practicing in private clinics are suspected of tax evasion, in particular of not declaring part of their income.
The control services of the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI) have detected irregularities in the income tax returns of some doctors practicing in private clinics in the kingdom. According to reports from the programming and risk analysis division, these doctors conceal part of their income from medical procedures performed in private clinics where they are not employees, reports Hespress.
In return for these services, these taxpayers receive cash amounts in these establishments that they fail to declare. The tax auditors noted significant gaps between the declared amounts and the costs charged for these interventions, particularly in the field of cardiovascular and obstetric surgery.
Proceeding with verifications with banks and the National Land Registry Agency, the tax auditors detected anomalies in the declarations of two renowned doctors in Casablanca, noting a gap between the declared income and their standard of living. The doctors concerned made bank transfers and issued checks of considerable amount for the acquisition of movable and immovable property in Morocco and abroad.
