Morocco: Olive oil trafficking leads to prison

In Taroudant, those involved in olive oil trafficking have been sentenced to a term of imprisonment and a heavy fine.
The verdict is known. The court of first instance in Taroudant has sentenced the forger and his accomplice to four months’ imprisonment and a fine of 50,000 dirhams each, reports Assabah. These two individuals had been arrested after the dismantling by representatives of the National Office of Sanitary Safety of Food Products (ONSSA), local authorities and the security forces of Taroudant of a secret workshop producing olive oil unfit for consumption.
During this joint operation, drums and 5-liter cans of counterfeit oil, ready to be distributed to retailers in the markets of Taroudant and its surroundings, had been seized. The security forces had also confiscated equipment intended for the illegal blending and packaging of the oils on the premises.
