Tangier Revives Plans for Eco-Friendly Cable Car Linking Port to City Center

A call for expressions of interest has been launched by the Tangier Port Development Company (SAPT) for the realization and management of the Tangier cable car. This eco-friendly mode of transport will have to connect the port of Tangier to the city center.
Initiated in 2010, the innovative project in the field of ecology, which was supposed to be operational in 2014, had passed through the hands of several private operators, without ever seeing the light of day. 10 years later, the local authorities are launching a new call for tenders.
Part of the port reconversion plan, the new tourist attraction of the city will allow users to enjoy a panoramic view of the most beautiful sites of the city of Boughaz, including the marinas, the medina and the bay.
The cable car, the first non-polluting transport service in Morocco, will transport 2,800 people per hour over a distance of 1,882 meters. With 90 cabins with a capacity of 12 passengers, the cable car will transit through 4 stations, Place El Faro, Boulevard Mohamed V, Esplanade of the mosque and the Kasbah.
