Tangier Unveils 2km Cable Car Project with Four Stations, Connecting Kasbah to Old Medina

After the launch of a call for tenders through the Société d’aménagement pour la reconversion de la zone portuaire de Tanger ville "SAPT", the cable car project is being unveiled.
The Tangier cable car project was unveiled on the occasion of the launch of the call for tenders, through architectural plans made public. The project involves the construction of four stations instead of the three initially planned. The cable car line should be 2 kilometers long. The route will connect the Borj Naâm station (located near the Kasbah) to the Faro square in the old medina, passing through the port of Tangier and then the Plaisance station (located near the Plaisance port), reports the Arabic daily Al Akhbar. With a capacity of 2,000 passengers per hour, the line should be operational by the end of 2024.
The Tangier cable car project is part of the city’s port reconversion project, but also in a sustainable development approach (green mobility) and tourist animation of the city. It should mobilize a budget envelope of 300 million dirhams. The launch of the call for tenders through the Société d’aménagement pour la reconversion de la zone portuaire de Tanger ville "SAPT" paves the way for the designation of a delegatee, with the skills and technical, human and financial capacities to carry out the financing, design, construction, operation and maintenance of a cable car system and all its components.
