Tangier Advances Cable Car Project: Bids Open for 4-Station Green Transit System

The Tangier cable car project which is part of the city’s port reconversion project, but also in a sustainable development approach (green mobility) and tourist animation of the city is progressing. The completion of the first phase of the construction site is scheduled for 2024.
Tangier is active for its new cable car. Issam El Ghachi, vice-president of the city council in charge of property management, announced that the opening of the bids for the international calls for tenders for the delegated management of public transport through the cable car will take place on June 16, reports the Arabic-language daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia.
The Tangier cable car project involves the construction of four stations instead of the three initially planned. With a capacity of 2,000 passengers per hour, the cable car line should be 2 kilometers long. The route will connect the Borj Naâm station, near the Kasbah, to the Faro square in the old medina, passing through the port of Tangier and then the Plaisance station.
With a budget of 240 million dirhams, the first phase of the project is focused on the realization of the first two sections, a total length of 1.3 kilometers. Its completion is scheduled for 2024.
